The third annual TEDxSanDiego brought together a diverse group of 600 individuals, organizations and movements intent on sharing ideas and having an impact on the world. The event featured 33 dynamic speakers and performers representing a wide spectrum of talent and ideas in technology, education and the arts.
The 2012 theme, “Cause & Affect reflects the impact that speakers and participants have had on the world and represents the goal of TEDxSanDiego – to move participants to make a positive difference in their lives, the community or the world based on their experience.
TEDxChange 2011 “The Big Picture”

TEDxSanDiego hosted a local simulcast of TEDxChange 2012’s “The Big Picture,” live from Berlin, Germany. TEDxChange 2012 is a TEDx event co-organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and TED. In addition to the simulcast, TEDxSanDiego featured two notable local speakers: David A. Shirk, PhD, and USD professor who works to promote greater analysis and understanding of Mexico, U.S.-Mexico relations, and Raj Krishnan, CEO at Biological Dynamics, a start-up biotechnology company focusing on next generation rapid molecular diagnostics.
TEDxSanDiego 2011 “The World in Our Grasp”

Over 525 participants attended the 2011 event, The World In Our Grasp, which featured nearly 30 speakers, and included tech demonstrations and art installations. Noted speakers included actor and activist Richard Dreyfuss, author and life coach Martha Beck, spoken word artist Sekou Andrews as well as LA philharmonic violinist and TED Fellow Robert Gupta. Combined, the speaker videos from TEDxSanDiego events have been viewed online nearly 250,000 times.
TEDxYouth@SanDiego 2011 “The World in Our Grasp”

TEDxYouth@SanDiego was launched in November 2011, as a partnership between TEDxSanDiego, local high school students, area educators and business mentors. The inaugural event was created by youth for youth and hosted 400 high school students from across the county to experience the power of ideas – and the possibility of bringing them to life. TEDxYouth@SanDiego is held in conjunction with Universal Children’s Day and TEDxYouth@SanDiego serves as a global anchor event for TEDxYouth and the entire experience is live streamed world-wide. TEDxYouth@SanDiego, now an independent event, will host TEDxYouthSD 2012 “Architects of the Future.”

TEDxSanDiego launched in November 2010, with an event themed The Next Wave that reached 300 participants in the audience and over 20,000 via live stream. The event featured over 20 speakers and performers including ukulele player Jake Shimabakuro; Director of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Tony Hamet; author Simon Sinek, and Invisible Children founder Jason Russell.
